“Why is the quote I am getting so different from other auto insurance companies?”
I get this question all the time. The reason for this is this: some auto insurance companies do not want you. I know it is hard to be rejected. However, auto insurance is like a relationship. And sometimes, they’re just not into you.
This goes back to our previous post on how insurance companies do not want to take on risk. These entities have an appetite for a certain type of business (and individuals). Auto insurance carriers will offer better rates to younger individuals just starting out. They aim to establish an early connection with them in hopes that they will be with them in the long run.
But that’s not always the case.
Other companies want small families with a house under their name, proven driving records, and great credit scores. They hope that their records and current status would have little, to no loss.
Remember, each auto insurance company is different. Some want the same credentials. Others want totally different things. Whatever their appetite is, one thing is certain- it is always going to be focused on the profitability of the company.
How to Know if You’re Their Target
Now if you are wondering how you can tell what an insurance company’s appetite is, watch their commercials. If you see an ad with a kid just learning to drive, or mom and dad are buying that first car, the insurance company want parents with kids that are coming on to the policy for the first time.
Now, if you see a commercial with an older couple buying the car they always wanted and there are no kids in the picture, the auto insurance company is targeting empty nesters.
Insurance companies are always telling you what they want. You can bypass all of that and go straight to an insurance broker. Anyway, their carriers will tell them exactly what they are looking for.
I hope you do not feel bad and thinking the insurance company has all the power. You, as the consumer, have a great deal of power as well in the auto insurance market. Without you there are no insurance companies.
